Kayla Imrie fantastic in Auzzie

February 1, 2011

Mana club paddler Kayla Imrie was selected as one of two NZ U23 Women paddlers to travel to the Australian Grand Prix 2 kayak event this past weekend (Friday through Sunday). CRNZ selects teams to race at GP2 which sees athletes from across Australia and other countries in K1 to K4 with a range of age groups.

Kayla really showed her paddling development this last three years with a great 2nd place result in the U23 Womens K1 500m and then teamed up with Jordan Pearse from Hawkes Bay to pull a 2nd place in the K2 500m. Kayla followed that up on Sunday with a 2nd in the U23 WK1 200m and then, again with Jordan, paddled to a strong 1st place in the U23 WK2 200m Final.

Other club and ex club paddlers were also at GP2 – Simon Trotter highlighted with a 1st pace U23 MK2 200m after a very good 2nd U23 MK2 1000m and Jasper Batts had some great results at the regatta.
