Archer Wins 3rd NZ Marathon Title

June 9, 2009

Marianne Archer is building a legacy that will be hard to beat as she won her third NZ Marathon title in 3 years.Marianne powered around the 28km course to win by over three minutes from her nearest rival Bianca Porteous of Arawa. Bianca and Marianne shared the lead for the first two laps of the 4 lap race when Marianne decided to up the tempo and dropped Bianca. She paddled out in the lead for the remaining 14km to claimher 3rd Marathon title.

Now she has a wait to see if the selectors will be selecting her to represent NZ at the World marathon championships.

Sam Blyde paddled extremely well to take second place in the open mens race. Sam and eventual winner Craig Simpkins were locked into a titantic battle for the first 3 laps before Craig surged at the last portage and made the decisive break.

Mana’s second national champion came in the Masters Multisport division where Greg Adlam paddled a blinder to convincingly win the masters division.

In the U23 division saw Mana’s crack sprint squad having a go at the longer distance stuff and found that the marathon is a long way. But they paddled well with Simon Trotter taking the bronze and Ryan Welch paddling hard for forth.

It was great to see Sophia racing and doing well to take the bronze in the junior womens race.

Congratulations to you all it was pleasing to see such large numbers from our club competing. It is a great opportunity to get some quality miles into you and mentally you will all be better for the experience.

Ask Jasper and Sam About the K2 race??
